Character Counter
Count characters, words, and sentences. Pick a platform preset to check limits for Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, email, and more.
Why use a character counter?
Every platform has a character limit. Twitter gives you 280 characters. Instagram captions cap at 2,200. Email subject lines should stay under 60 characters for mobile readability. Meta descriptions get truncated after ~155 characters in Google. Going over means your message gets cut off.
This tool counts characters, words, sentences, and paragraphs in real time. Pick a platform preset to see exactly how much space you have left. No signup, no install โ everything runs in your browser.
Platform character limits
Twitter / X: 280 characters per tweet. Threads can be longer but each individual tweet is limited.
Instagram: 2,200 characters for captions. Only the first ~125 characters show before "more" is clicked.
LinkedIn: 3,000 characters for posts. First ~140 characters appear in the preview.
Email subject: 60 characters is the safe maximum for mobile display. Anything longer gets truncated on most phones.
SMS: 160 characters per segment. Longer messages split into multiple segments, which costs more.
